True, it might be worth going regardless just for that reason. Idk, I get bad anxiety/doomer-thoughts especially when going into things I've heard bad news about. Was hoping for some clarity from a native about the tourist situation. Just don't want to visit a place and be looked at weirdly for being there.

That's what I hear but idk, I just want some kind of clarity from a native that my worries are overblown.

I am asking here because Reddit doesn't let you post anything if you haven't got an old account or one with a lot of upvotes. At least there are some Japanese people in these forums who can maybe help me with this. I don't know what's political about it. I want to visit Japan but I'm concerned about tourist tension and Japan's view of black people.

That's what people say but Japanese people have been voicing their frustrations with tourists. Especially after the Johnny Salami guy caused a lot of trouble and made the Japan's image of black people even worse over there. Maybe I am too anxious but I can't help but think I'll just be grouped with every other weirdo visiting Japan.

I have been wanting to Travel to Japan, find the culture interesting and have been learning the language.

But ngl, seeing how other tourists have been treating Japan recently is turning me away because it feels like there's a lot of tension now between tourists and natives. I am also black and I know that Japan doesn't have a good history with colourism and a lot of the tourists causing trouble have also been black which makes things even worse for me if I went there.

Is it still worth visiting or will I just be profiled and looked at weirdly. Tell me now before I waste time learning more of the language.
