no you can lose in oxg vs tl fashion or lose g2 vs gambit style or gambit vs cr style, getting as little rounds as possible.

maybe it would be counting the core players from the satrt of the vct circuit. Lets take VS for example. Their core players are stax, king and Rb. If any of them left the team, they would lose all their points unless all three joined the same team. So all three core players have to transfer. If all 6 players are core players, then perhaps it would be decided depending on who has been with the team for the longest. Idk how riot thinks but i would decide it in this way.
