  • frenzy is really good on LAN
  • he's glad he got to go to his first masters
  • marved was the best (but yay was really good too)
  • EU has crazy players
  • something about English people in general
  • the most fun match was g2
  • more stuff about outside players being insane, comparing them to marved
  • compares meeting Carpe in OW world cup to marved

that's like the first half

rn she's at a high T2 level IMO. but it's hard to judge since she'd likely improve at a much faster rate on a T1 team too.

a) not sexist nor racist
b) penalty was given
c) it's not 6 months but three fucking games and 6 months of "training"

posted about 2 years ago

they really need to make a more thorough ruleset so there's uniformity in the penalties.

100% deserved though. that's not a joke.

especially the last map, it looked like it would've gone to OT but boaster got picked trying to smoke on a late lurk. and also the EU flash

for me it's

1) Sentinels, Gambit - Every match these teams played, I was extremely confident they'd win if they didn't throw

2) Acend - Great team but they weren't as dominant as any other team in the tournament. The grand final match definitely felt more up-in-the-air.

3) Optic - Felt more on par with other top teams at the tournament, if slightly better.

I can't imagine them not wearing the Gambit bomber jackets.

it just occurred to me that this change saves PRX in 2023

I think Jingg is going to leave for military service that year, so they'll have to pick up another player.

Since the league is all-Asia, they won't need to only choose an MY/SG player as the replacement since they have literally all of Asia.

the SEA superteam is finally possible.

posted about 2 years ago

depends on how they set up the league tbh

if there are indeed relegation/promotion events or even just open qual slots then tier 2 should still have incentive to compete and develop.

posted about 2 years ago

3 leagues:

Americas: NA + BR + LATAM

Europe: EMEA + MENA

Asia: (SEA + SA + OCE + JP + KR)

Riot picks all the teams they want in the league - there is no "buy-in". If they think a team will stay competitive, Riot will PAY the team to participate in the form of stipends relative to their investment. Compared to CDL,OWL, and even LCS for example, this should reduce bottom teams that never try to get good.

Overall I'd say the system is pretty good, although there's not much information regarding new teams and tier-2 promotion which is necessary for a good esport.

I'm nearly 100% certain there will be at least one if not more than one SA team.

There's no way they include the region in the comment about the league and choose to not include a team from the region.

Yeah, considering the size and potential I could definitely see 24 teams. However, I don't think it's going to be much higher than that just because it would be much harder to market them (and also create team skins or whatever will inevitably also be created to support the teams).

posted about 2 years ago

and teams from Southeast Asia, Korea, Japan, South Asia, and Oceania will make up a league

I wonder they're going to balance the participation. With 16 teams, and 4 + SEA (MYSG, ID, TH, PH, HK/TW, VN ) = 10 "regions" to pick from, it's going to be hard to reach a good compromise.

On the other hand, LAN COMPETITION!!!!! HOLY POG, I don't think there's any PC esport that has even close to Valorant-popular LAN competition with this variety of regions.

Imagine a tour going like SK->JP->PH->TH->ID->SG/MY/India

Also, investment in APAC is going to grow so hard since the viewership will be very high combined with Riot assistance for all the teams. Hopefully no more bullshit like the X10 situation or players getting paid peanuts and not being able to put their all into the game.

this is false!

BraveAF joined on a trial basis back in January but as of May 1st, we will not be continuing his contract. This decision was based on a number of factors but we should stress, is not a direct result of BraveAF’s recent suspension.

.

we realized more and more that unfortunately, his position was untenable. This is due to a lack of clarity around being able to come to future boot camps, live events and even our ability to continue to pay him due to political restrictions

Derke - main duelist
Boaster - smokes?
mistic - flex
fearoth - initiator?
alfajer - sentinel

I think alfajer is a good pick for this meta which seems to really value high-fragging sentinels. Fearoth didn't really impress me at Reykjavik but that's natural considering the circumstances. Boaster on smokes is probably a lot better in the omen/brim meta since he wouldn't have to deal with IGL-ing while constantly using astra util

overall, this roster has a lot of potential. still need to see the new players perform, though.

posted about 2 years ago

For APAC, I think ONIC could definitely make a deep run.

Xerxia and PRX are definitely the clear favorites, though.

posted about 2 years ago

Their style looks very replicable and somewhat strategically sound in this meta, at least. Didn't really rely on a single player, single gimmick, or anything similar.

I see no reason why they wouldn't perform this well again if they played in a similar way (naturally, they would have to fix the mistakes they made in this tournament).

However, I wouldn't say the same thing for the rest of the Japanese scene. If a CR or IGZ made it here, I wouldn't have any expectations at all.
