I think you underestimate the effect of mid-rounding. They would not have won Ascent against Fnatic if it wasn't for Saadhak's.

Fnatic are known for fantastic scouting, management and they have been successful over a long period of time.

Also they are in a partner league system, where no team in any of the leagues has tier 3 players. They all were a success or had an established tier 2 background - especially in EMEA.

They lost to both Acend and Apeks before entering the lower bracket AND dropped a map to SAW, they had just over 24 hours of extreme mechanical form. In the first games they didn't take a MAP. Idk how much clearer it can be indicated that it was a fluke result.
APEKS were the best Ascension team in Europe all year, now we have another French team that's going to come into tier 1 and underperform,
it's a waste of a spot.
