Jawgemo is just a more well rounded duelist and has frankly proved himself on the duelist role more than Leaf has, and Leaf was an arguably top 3 sentinel last year. I loved Leaf when he was on Duelist, but there's really no reason to make it more complicated than it needs to be

They didn't have FNS or Optic's system, just because you have 3 of the players, doesn't mean you have Optic. They had a first time IGL who was clearly not fit for the IGL role and Ethan himself admitted that, you can pretend like we slotted Demon1 into prime optic and he took the entire thing down. I love the Optic boys, but they weren't as good as they used to be and you need to accept that
2024 NRG was not Optic bro and EG was better than Optic so
