The only reason Mistic was cut from Fnatic was because the introduction of the partnership league meant Leo and Chronicle were available. He would have 100% stayed on the team otherwise.

DS era was the best. The DS is a goated console in general and the animated sprites of BW are so much better than the modern 3D models

Governments all over the world are invested in all kinds of popular sports, pushing for example to host major tournaments (see Qatar football world cup for example, there was pretty much no football scene in Qatar beforehand, it was purely a government effort).

Sports can help a country with their international image ("sportswashing"), and also promote national brands which sponsor national sports teams, etc.

I didn't say they're bad riflers. I said they're good awpers. And they have always been the awpers in their respective teams.

Yay and Cryo were never really duelist players anyway. Both of them only played Jett because they are good awpers and Jett just happened to be the best agent for awping. That's why they both don't play Raze very well, and why they were so much better on Chamber than other previous duelist players.

Teams just put their best players on Jett in the early days of Valorant, regardless of which role would actually suit them best.

Who cares where he grew up. Genetics don't determine gaming skill

Aw I mean the GBA was great too, I just think the NDS had a really practical size, a good selection of games, unbeatable battery life, and honestly the graphical capabilities were quite respectable. Plus the two screens and the touchscreen allowed for some really fun gameplay. I loved Pokémon as a kid (still do tbh) and the animated sprites in Black/White are just soooo good, so much better than the 3D models nowadays.

Oh and something the newer consoles don't do anymore: Backwards compatibility! You could still play the GBA games on the NDS.

Actually a good point. Why would yay fans know Ascension players? They had no reason to watch since yay didn't even qualify

posted about a year ago

Haven't bought it yet, but New Super Mario Bros for the NDS was one of my favourite games of all times (NDS Lite goated console tbh) so I will definitely try it once I have a bit more time

I really hope whatever team he joins just put him on KJ, and maybe Chamber on the maps where he might be viable. Just look at Alfa and Less to see what you can do on KJ. It suits his playstyle much more than the Jett. Nobody holds angles with a Vandal like yay.

I think with some time to adapt, he could be a much scarier KJ than Jett

He was good at champs 22. Shao and Sacy were better for sure. Maybe crashies as well, might even throw Mistic in there. There's no way he wasn't top 5 though.

I really don't get why everyone is singling out Destrian as much as they do. I felt like he was solid throughout the year. Better than Bonecold and Molsi (love both of them, but this was not their year) and about on par with cender.

As a proud American and an avid NA fan I have to admit we're doomed. EG's win was a fluke (I'm an EG fan, it's sad but true) and all of NA will get destroyed next year.

posted about a year ago

Alfajer had the exact same trajectory. He wasn't destroying everyone in tier 2, he was a solid player on a solid team. Now he's one of the best in the world.

Everyone has to start somewhere, and there's always gonna be cracked players in tier 2. I mean now that Valorant esports has been around for a while, all new players will have to start in tier 2. Do you think new talent just gets born straight into a top roster?

Of course some of them are gonna flop, but I'd rather see talented young newcomers over the same old washed ex-CS pros.

Fair enough

Both points make sense, the first one just confuses visa and citizenship.

posted about a year ago

The second point is valid (sort of). The teams in the Korean VCL have an easier time finding partnered teams to scrim against. Although Japan should be fine as well ping wise. SEA should have a much harder time in theory.

It's similar in Americas, where NA VCL teams constantly scrim all the partner teams whereas the SA VCL teams can only scrim each other, so their quality of scrims is inherently lower.

He was on a good team. Like are you iron or some shit??

We're saying the same thing though. Reyna and Chamber play very similarly, because their job is to take first duels, but their strengths lie in what happens after those duels, whereas Jett or Raze have util that supports what happens before those duels. Phoenix falls into that category as well. Of course Phoenix and Reyna both have flashes, but in a pro setting, you often want the flashes coming from initiators anyway. I mean if we look at duelist util, we have

  • Util that is essentially a weapon:
Jett ult, Neon ult, Raze ult

  • AOE util that clears space:
Phoenix molly, Neon stun, Raze nade

  • Movement util
Jett Dash, Updraft, Satchels, Neon run

  • Flashes

  • Get out of jail free cards
Jett dash, Reyna dismiss, Phoenix ult (kinda)

All of Chamber's util except for the trip can be placed in one of those categories.

Obviously Phoenix/Reyna and Chamber don't have the exact same role (especially on defense), but there is a lot of overlap, especially compared to other sentinels like Cypher or Killjoy. And Riot took a lot of inspiration from their duelists to design his abilities. He's not a pure duelist, but he's not a pure sentinel either, it's kind of a hybrid.

posted about a year ago

Chamber is as good at entrying as Reyna is. No movement util, no util to clear angles for himself, but you still want him to take first duels often, even on attack (at least that's how most teams played him during the peak Chamber meta).

His job in the meta was to take first duels, He just needed more support from initiator util.

If the org gives her another 10 man roster then yeah. If they go into next season with only 5 it'll be much harder.

He was not the best initiator at champs 22. Shao, Sacy and Crashies cleared him (also never forget keznit fade). But to say he wasn't top 10 is just delusional lmao

The champs bundle revenue also doesn't necessarily go to the players. I know in 2021 we had some hard numbers on some of the orgs, some took up to 70 or even 90% of the revenue. I don't know how much EG takes.
