Guilherme " Nyang " Coelho is undoubtedly one of the great promises of the Brazilian Valorant scene.
The former Point Blank world champion began his new venture in the FPS world during the Brazilian Valorant beta, where he and his teammates on Gamelanders stood out as the first team to pick up valorant's rank - the highest in the game>. The team continued their high profile run into the Copa Rakin charity tournament, where they became the undefeated champions and took home the prize of 10,000 reais (~1907 USD).
In an exclusive interview with vlr.gg's Yamada, Nyang gives his thoughts on the game's future and the trending Gamelanders team:
Yamada: How do you feel about being captain of the hottest team in South America?
Nyang: First, on behalf of the team, thank you for the compliment. It's a big responsibility and I believe I'm prepared. This is just the beginning and we still need to devote much more, but we know that and we will do what is possible and impossible.
Yamada: What do you think of the skill level of the Brazilian scene so far in tournaments and scrims?
Nyang: The Brazilian scenario will undoubtedly be one of the best. The level of Brazilian FPS has always been high and Valorant has united the best of all games. We still have few championships, but I'm sure the next one, with full teams, will be extremely competitive.
Yamada: Coming from a successful past in Point Blank, how was this migration to Valorant for you?
Nyang: We stopped playing Point Blank when, after dedicating ourselves for several years, we saw no return on our investment (even while getting all the best possible results). Although Point Blank's gameplay is totally different from that of other FPS games, the competitive experience we gained helped us a lot.
Yamada: Do you think the friendship between members of your team has made it easier for you guys to evolve very fast in the game?
Nyang: Absolutely. Friendship is a fundamental part of a team. Without a good coexistence outside the game it becomes increasingly difficult to have good results. I attribute our evolution to the friendship and dedication we all have, but we know there is still much to improve.
Yamada: Do you think Valorant will grow to become a global esport? Or will it end up as a game with only niche appeal?
Nyang: Valorant has united the community of various FPS games and therefore I believe it will become one of the largest FPS played both in Brazil and around the world. With Riot's management the game has everything to succeed.
Yamada: What can we expect from this lineup in the future?
Nyang: Lots of effort, dedication and a unique style of play. Apart from the bizarre plays of the fznnn and the highlights of the mwzera, of course.
Yamada: Has any organization approached you guys yet? If so, can you give us a hint?
Nyang: Already, yes. I can't talk much at the moment, but we're already in negotiations. I believe it will soon be official and we will be able to disclose it.
Yamada: Any final shoutouts?
Nyang: I appreciate the invitation for this interview and especially all the support of the fans of all during our first championship. We must put aside differences and become a unique community of Valorant. It's not an easy transition, but you can count on our team. May this be only the beginning of a prosperous future!
