Here’s my explanation/speculation on the Asia Pacific (APAC) VCT 2022 format.
I think the format will remain mostly the same as 2021. However, the format for Challengers will use a league system as said in the VCT 2022 announcement video. And then the top teams from the Challengers ‘league’ will go to the APAC Challengers Playoffs (or maybe there will be playoff after the league and then the top teams from that will go to the APAC playoffs). However, The APAC Challengers playoffs (the tournament to decide top teams from this tournament to go to masters) will split into 2. I speculate this because when I read the announcement of the VCC (a challengers for Indian teams) for 2022 said on the article that top teams from VCC will compete in ‘split 1 APAC challengers’. I don’t know how many the ‘splits’ for APAC but safe to assume they will probably have 2.
Split 1 will include the top teams from VCC (that include the SA region) and top teams from every Challengers in their respective country from the SEA region. (Malaysia/Singapore, Phillippines, Indonesia, etc.) and Oceania. Split 2 will include the top teams from Japan and Korea Challengers (and possibly china in the future). The top teams from the Split 1 and 2 will go to the International Masters event. I think they split the region because of the ping differences on the servers (and korea already have a separate matchmaking servers than the rest of the APAC region) even though they planned on doing LANs for the challengers playoff but that’s the best reason for them to split off that I can think off. And also by ‘splitting’ the region means that we will have more representative from APAC for the Masters event, so that good for us Valorant fans from APAC.
That’s my two cents for the APAC VCT 2022 format, let me know if there’s a misinformation/new information on this.
