why is esports promoted so poorly?

I wasn't here in the early days of starcraft or the glory days of overwatch, but in the present i feel like esports should be a whole lot bigger. i just feel like it's weird how everyone who plays basketball for instance watches the nba, but not that many people who play valorant watch it

riot is trying but its hard to encourage people who are mostly casual to watch the games, particularly with the fact that games are pretty rare and often at awkward times. i think the best way would honestly be incorporating ads on yt and stuff with esports, as well as official promotions and stuff on the main Valorant socials. Once people have a team to go for it’s way easier to get into supporting them, and this could be done with more mini-content and team vs team stuff

its more so the teams rather the games( Like Riot ) themselves.

most people watch the top 10 players in the nba. like no one is willingly watching a pistons vs jazz game...... its like that for valorant

if no good player/team is playing ( Sentinels, PRX, NRG, or even players like Tenz, Demon1, s0m, FNS, Jingg ) people arent gonna watch, most players/orgs just have poor branding or just boring to gaf about.

shorter format is king now, sitting down to watch BO3 is a chore

basketball itself has dropping viewership, unless there is a real rivalry (this years NBA finals had the lowest watching post covid)

So 2 things

1. RIVALRY
2. LENGTH of the game

cuz most people dont really watch/care as much. like for me, I only watch masters, and hype match ups in AMERICAS/EMEA.
