Not a part of day to day word dictionary, but people of all ages say it all the time. For me, it is just another word in real day to day life. It doesn't matter, people dont use it maliciously, like in white majority countries like America/Canada, etc. Obviously I wont use it here, in this public forum with its own set of rules and guidelines to not hurt anyone.Seems like an extremely different perspective eh? But that's how my life is.
Yeah, because that word has a lot of history and malice behind it and somehow over the course of a few 100 years black people were able to
“reclaim” it and took the sting out of a slur by using the word as a term of endearment.
If that doesn’t make sense, consider this comparison. Some women who call each other “b*tch” make use it in a more affectionate/joking way. Obviously not the same as we also use the "word" bitch but the situationism is the same.
Some Black people who use the n-word follow the same logic. Since they have uniquely suffered from the use of the n-word, they are the only ones who have the right to use it. For others, using the n-word isn’t repeating a racial slur; it’s an act of defiance. "Defiance you say?" Well given the history of slavery and harm the word has caused, and knowing that the black community has positively "reclaimed" it. Why do you feel the need to say the word? Sure you could argue free speech, but there is no purpose of the word being used unless you are black or were raised in a black community. Its as simple as that.
