I understand the sentiment - ramping up stakes for champs but there's surely better ways to do that which do not include downsizing international events.

I think they do this so that the pro will have enough rest time since there's no lcq. This means all teams need to play on both master qualification and masters. which forced teams that won to play 8 month straight no break.
