Did C9 actually play that bad at lock in?

Did the yay/vanity c9 roster actually play that bad. Obviously the sample size is small with two best of threes, but they played fairly well. They won their first match fairly convincingly, and then lost to drx who ended up finishing third. Obviously they underperformed, and they got ROLLED on icebox, but they performed well Pearl and reasonably on the second map. Yet I keep hearing broadcasters, YouTubers and other content creators keep saying they sucked. Are they just dodging the fact that the lost a super suss crypto sponsorship? Because yay was the best player on that team by a long shot. So why are people not just saying c9 had no money

No lol they 2-0’d PRX and lost to DRX 2-1 which isn’t even that bad. DRX is strong against new rosters anyways, C9 didn’t really have enough experience at that time

Pretty sure the general consensus is that c9 dropped yay and vanity due to money issues rather than performance issues. They looked good against PRX and were able to punish them pretty easily, which unstructured and inflexible teams normally cant do, so they obviously had something about them.

I think this is where the eye-test comes in. They didn't suck, but they should have looked a lot more prepped and innovative for all of the time and talent they had. On Icebox, it was extremely concerning that they couldn't adapt to DRX's Harbor comp, especially since DRX didn't show a lot of depth in that strategy. All they had to do was spam the cove and the planter to stop DRX's strategy but they never adapted and I think that falls on Vanity. Yay was because of money, Vanity had his chances imo

Don’t forget that this is the same C9 who traded Xeta for a chicken curry while they were number 1 in NA. You can’t expect this org to be patient with their roster

No, they did about as well at lock in as you can expect with zellshits on a new roster against one (arguably 2?) of the best teams in the world

Team needed changes, but mce and c9 fraudulent and dropped the 2 that should have been built around
