ok bro if you want a genuine answer, it comes from HLTV. it used as what people called bait-o-meter to rate if a post/reply is a bait or not.

why the number 8 as a scale? it's because 8 rhymes with bait. "hehe gr8 b8 m8 i r8 8/8" something like that.

at least this is from my understanding from using hltv since 2018, so don't quote me on that.
