There is obviously a lot of debate around the franchised teams riot has selected, but there are a few things the people keep throwing around that are misunderstood, or blatantly wrong.
The first is the reason for franchising teams - it is NOT based on results.
Teams are franchised based on their;
- Willingness to spend big money on the valorant scene
- Popularity + fanbase
- Past connections with riot
Even though teams like optic and fpx performed well, teams like cloud9 and sentinels have much larger followings and streaming publicity, so understandably they were selected.
Another thing people don't understand: MOST ROSTERS WILL CHANGE! Think of franchising as a hard reset to the valorant scene. While some good teams that got into franchising, like Loud for example, will keep their roster, many others will completely change. It is CERTAIN that rosters like optic and fpx will be signed to franchised teams, because they have proven they are consistent and can win. It is also likely that franchised teams like Sentinels will rebuild their rosters around their most popular players (tenz, shahz etc.)
TLDR: franchising is based on the org, not the results. + most rosters will change.
