ok hear me out
isnt it better if franchising system to use a relegation system?
if riot just copypaste what they've done with LoL its gonna be a disaster for minor team and minor region (LoL created LEC with the exemption of CIS, Turkey, etc)
Basically the Franchise League thats about to be created from chose orgs in an upcoming news are Tier 1 League. (Since there will be only 3 Continent League)
Personally, relegation + points system is already good as it is (riot basically copied valve system of DPC and make it their own) and it can still be implemented for Franchise League.

Riot maybe already thinking about this, but I heard a lot of bad response from people.

edit: to those who says this is basically not a franchise. what I suggested was riot still the one who choose who they can partner with (Tier1 for partnered, Tier2 for affiliates for examples) that way no unknown teams will be created out of nothing

Just make dpc with div 1 invited for first season, div 2 go oq and wualify major champs gg

yeah but riot still might need to filter which org that can be chosen in whole league (include tier 2). that way there wont be a no name team created out of nowhere

This is like copy DOTA DPC point system. Which I think RIOT don't like it

the system of DPC is good. the problem is that it is treated just like normal regional qualifiers. thats why making it as a franchise is always better than what valve did to let 3rd party companies handling it.

DPC is trash because teams can qualify for the TI through regional qualifiers

yup I agree that's one flaw of the system. TI qualifiers shouldnt exist at all. but that aside, the point system is a part where it comes good tbh.

Having relegation goes against what the franchise league is for

ik what it means and what its for
relegation system could work if there's a contract clausal (requirement to stay on the league)between two parties.

but as far as we have seen from riot's league system its locked and static.

all the rumors say the spots are given away in a time contract. Why do you think they are giving them away for free?

#11

depends on how many year the contract is given. if its a yearly then its basically the same as relegating (even if there is no tier 2). but if its like 5 years then thats bad news.

#12

yeah I heard 4 years, but it's basically confirmed that there wont be relegations though. I think riot just wants a set list of names to advertise around and not have a new face every year and potentially a big team going down, probably to sell ingame skins, banners, etc.

the whole franchise point is basically skip a 'competitive' part and the team can play without having through promotion or relegation part

if you using promotion and relegation then franchise is useless because its just the same Tournament shit
You aren't understand how partnership works and then talk being understood is worst part of it

ur just giving insult without understanding the point.

franchising is just what "being partnered" means

I still believe franchise and point system can be implemented to each others, it just elminate the chance of some random unknown org to create a team, that's all. It's all up to what is on the contract.

we dont even know how they manage T2 and everyone telling about the solution. The only problem right now is riot didnt tell orgs about how they manage T2 scene.

this is what I'm thinking too. I still have faith in riot.
by how riot already giving us news about there will be only 3 continent league its already a sign that they learnt from LoL franchise mistakes. I still believe Tier 2 will still exist since it's only 3 Leagues.

nah you just understand the 'franchise' part, but you dnt understand why franchise happen in the first place

Franchise happen because Orgs want a place in the tournament, if its have relegation then what happen ???
thats right they want change roster because they keep losing, thats the problem
Riot want sustainable and riot dnt want team change too often because they lose once

You dont understand the whole part

#26

thats because riot never demanded anything in LoL franchise for mid team. The team would still satisfied for providing bad result as long as they stay on the franchise. That's what missing on riot part. That's why contractual clauses are necessary.

surely Riot is more clever and understand than 20 year old kids on internet forum

Ok hear me out, how about if you let the 3rd party organizers make their leagues totally free and, hold it, you make a couple of official events per year where you qualify through open qualys, so you give space to the entire world to participate and the free market decides if your game is worth it or no.
Crazy, right?

the impact of creating a league is very significant on market and media perspective. Just look how league franchise is very succesful on gaining fans attentions.

Bro, with all the due respect, LoL is dead and burried in latam, maybe in Mexico still have some life, and it's a "similar" system since very few teams actually relegated.
i get that this is a show first, a sport second, but men, every other server besides China and Korea is really bad compared to them thanks to the franchise locking their players in their respective regions, and it's not funny to only see two nationalities dispute the titles... its boring.

I dont think its gonna be that bad. I still believe Tier 2 will still exist. It's just riot now basically just eliminating small noname non-established orgs. The fact that there will be only 3 continent league is a sign that riot learnt from their mistakes. (LoL franchise is very bad btw, LEC exempt CIS, france, Turkey as region, and didn't even combine SEA+OCE+Vietnam as a whole)

Ah btw, if franchises suck, relegation SUCKS ASS
The best example is what happened to Furious Gaming in LATAM, one of the most beloved orgs by the community in the league, known for treating their players and staff with respect and paying IN TIME, 2nd in opening and 3rd in closing season that year; had to play the relegation due to a dumbfuckery of Riot, the result? They relegated and "Globant" started to play in LLA, a team with no history, nor fans, nor infrastructure in Mexico...
Both franchises and relegation are not only boring as hell, but generally it's the same shit over and over again, and thanks to the leagues being closed, the bootcamps DO NOT exists, the level of your region is what you have and you will never improve over that because the top team doesn't have anyone else to practice with.

they're leaving space at the end of the year for third party organizers, and to be precise, third party organizers can perfectly do events if they want already, it's just that the teams have already decided that they want to stick by riot's system

How strange, because Furious gaming and a lot of players/coaches here in latam directly abandoned Valorant due to the lack of tournaments, and it's a common complain even with tournament organizers, Hydr4 (streamer and owner of the FiRe league, a somewhat important csgo circuit here in argentina) literally said that Valorant is not intresting because there are no other tournaments beside Riot's.
Keznit is good, but here there are some ridiculous talent and they cant even play because there's nothing, no GamersClub, no ESEA cash cups, no lobbys like FPL/WPL/LPL... there's nothing for a VERY NEW COMPETITIVE GAME.
So that leaves me to believe that there are two reasons for that
a) Nobody cares about Valorant (false, since the game is always evolving and there's a scene here)
b) Riot is doing something to prevent 3rd party events to happen

#25
charizard_123

I believe it's a mix of both, there are regions were third party tournaments are more common than others (particularly in NA). I don't see why Riot would allow 3rd parties in NA but not in other regions, so either they're really stupid or organizers actually don't care that much about making events, but, I'm certain that they do prevent large tournaments, at least they prohibit VCT teams to play in those, so I believe teams could technically sabotage VCT and exist just with third party events, I just don't think there are any teams nor tournament organizers willing to take that risk.

Relegation/Promotion is much better (like they are doing in EMEA), but i still think open is the best. However relegation and promotion is an amazing compromise and should seriously still be considered (even though it probably won't happen)

Edit:

Again this is still not franchising though, and not what they are going for.

imo it still can implement to each others if riot learn from their mistakes

this is basically just like football leagues with the teams being partnered to the FA (the so called premier league), no unknown teams can compete without being established org (thats what being a partner supposed to mean)

The premier league isn’t TECHNICALLY a partnership league, it’s just that there would be no chance that a team would ever make it there without a being a business. I remember the closest thing was like when Forest Green Rovers or something went from Division 11 to Division 4 of the English Football League system within 8 years. I think they started out not being sponsored but of course eventually did

And TI is the only tournament that matters BC of the prize pool

That's a crowdfunding mistake though. It has these crazy numbers because players give it them for this purpose. And they kinda can't go back now to revive the scene.

CS did it better with sticker capsules where money from buying those goes to all the teams/players included there. Although that's basically a sticker lootbox. But long history before that probably also helps a lot.

Idk but with Americas franchise this Is very problematic, depending where it will be hosted (presumably NA) t2 NA teams potentially getting scrims with t1 teams while t2 LAS/BR teams getting shit practice plus less talent on soloq.
I hate franchising so bad its unreal.
