Saw this on reddit and this was what i was thinking as well
An example

My name is Dick I'm a Platinum 3, have a smurf account in Silver 1.

Hi, my name is Balls I'm also a Platinum 3 but do not have a smurf account.

Hi I'm Hole (cause I suck Dick), I'm a Silver player and will queue with these two above and two other friends that are Silver too.

Do you see the problem here? The system will think the majority is Silver with just one Platinum 3, so the RR reduction gain will be 50% when in fact should be higher.

It will 100% reduce smurfing. I often play in a 5 man stack where 2 of us, myself included, have to use smurfs.

100%. making a smurf is not as easy as people think. 10 unrated games is not nothing

I feel like this change will reduce smurfing because, just like they said, many people create smurfs to play with lower elo friends. Now you don't need to have an alternative account for that and the rating gain/loss is diminished, so even the ones that want to hard grind won't be much negatively affected for playing with friends

it will reduce definitely but considering the no of smurfs ( esp in my rank -silver) it wont be a huge change or something coz you will get reduced RR

yes it will reduce smurfing forsure, if they are willing to play on a lower ranked account than their main for a friend then ofcorse they can take some rr deduction for smurfing / boosting a guy

If it is not a 5-stack, u will have to use a smurf 100%, and maybe some of your begginer friends get absolutely shit on by people of the highest rank of the group, or even if they are a little bit lower ranks, so I dont think this is going to do that much of a difference at all, not even 50% reduce smurfs imo

I don't think that this is going to reduce smurfing as much as they think. If someone (we will say plat 2) was trying to boost someone (their Silver 1 friend), why would they use their main to boost them in a 5 stack with harder overall elo and longer queue times? They wouldn't want to risk their main's elo with their silver friends, even if the RR at risk is reduced. Idk seems like something that makes sense in theory but in practice won't really have the effect that they wanted
