The EWC dilemma

I won't go into the whole moral, ethics and political part of the tournament and its host. We have heard it before like a thousand times. I am just trying to understand the org's perspective. This is my opinion or what I think is the reason they are joining, so bare with me and correct me if I am wrong.

While it is good to say all the good stuff about morals and ethics, at the end of the day, money matters. Specially in eSports where most orgs are bleeding money each and every year. We can put our high hats on and talk about how they have enough money from partnership, but at the end of the day, it's a business and most businesses I know would never reject money, specially the kind of money EWC offers. So why seperate eSports orgs from that.

For instance, they invested a million on the League of Legends tournament last year. That's 8 teams btw. You get 50k just for showing up and if you win, you get 400k. It is an insane amount of money.

It's not always black and white, good and bad. A huge part of this is very ambiguous. It's easy to say "Saudi bad, org no support, booooo" and it's okay if you believe that. It's your values, no one will say anything to you for not supporting this tournament. But you also have to understand why the orgs are taking part in it. In an ideal world, organizations wouldn’t have to make this choice, but in the harsh reality of eSports economics, morality often takes a backseat to survival, to money. You gotta make money back somehow after all.

TLDR for the ones with the attention span of a gooner : woooo EWC kachang kachang money. Org see money org go awooga 🤑

I just think this would open up for more 3rd party tournaments benefiting esports as a whole. if we have to into moral, ethics and politcal shit the US is worse so you kinda cant have it both ways.

I think they genuinely should form a partnership with some of the big TOs and add more games in the calendar
No one needs a week rest to play fucking Valorant bro
Everyone talks about this load management and shit and I understand it but the conversation that Riot doesn't make full round robin because of load management pisses me the fuck off
MF YOU ARE PLAYING VALORANT
LeBron James can play 4 games of basketball in a week at 40 years old and you can't play 2 games of Valorant?

lowkey. the fact that most teams have to wait like 2 months just to play again is so weird. the lack of games is imo hurting valorant in general. i get players needs break but 3-4 weeks and a super long off season is not it.

and yeah athletes play like 2-3 games a week, so u cant really use that as an excuse. we couldve benefited from a tournament RN with teams that didnt make bangkok.

Gotta agree with you I wish never started with the franchise system otherwise they could have gone way uphill with the 3rd party TO before franchise but after 2 years we can clearly see the financial instability this system has caused to create problems for the orgs who are not in the league leaving them to either burn more of their money with a few sponsors or leave the scene entirely.
For those who want to protest with the morale way for the EWC you need to know in the end of the day riot is a corporation they will always goes against their rules which they have created when it means in business stand point

Well exceptions aren't the norm
You know people who have turned down life changing salaries but your average person if given the chance to pick a job like that, they will probably pick the offer up.
Money is money and as an organisation, as a business, your biggest moral is that you gotta make money. Many of these orgs have never seen green in their whole existence. Imagine the chance to pump in 50k for just showing up at the tournament.
