I won't go into the whole moral, ethics and political part of the tournament and its host. We have heard it before like a thousand times. I am just trying to understand the org's perspective. This is my opinion or what I think is the reason they are joining, so bare with me and correct me if I am wrong.
While it is good to say all the good stuff about morals and ethics, at the end of the day, money matters. Specially in eSports where most orgs are bleeding money each and every year. We can put our high hats on and talk about how they have enough money from partnership, but at the end of the day, it's a business and most businesses I know would never reject money, specially the kind of money EWC offers. So why seperate eSports orgs from that.
For instance, they invested a million on the League of Legends tournament last year. That's 8 teams btw. You get 50k just for showing up and if you win, you get 400k. It is an insane amount of money.
It's not always black and white, good and bad. A huge part of this is very ambiguous. It's easy to say "Saudi bad, org no support, booooo" and it's okay if you believe that. It's your values, no one will say anything to you for not supporting this tournament. But you also have to understand why the orgs are taking part in it. In an ideal world, organizations wouldn’t have to make this choice, but in the harsh reality of eSports economics, morality often takes a backseat to survival, to money. You gotta make money back somehow after all.
TLDR for the ones with the attention span of a gooner : woooo EWC kachang kachang money. Org see money org go awooga 🤑
