Documentaries don't have to be that long though. I've seen plenty that are 40-50 mins

Yeah. It really depends, tbh. I've seen documentaries that are almost 3 hours, and I've seen documentaries that are around 20 minutes (e.g. Werner Herzog Eats His Shoe)
