yeah you have to pay, until a few updates ago you could just grind non-prime and get prime for free once you reached level 21, it would take you roughly 50 hours iirc
That's not what's holding the game back though. VAC is unusable, and 64 tick is unacceptable in 2021. Fix that and I would love the game, but it always feels like valve is doing the bare minimum they can do to get an "is this the update that brings back the game posts". Not trying to be a negative Nancy, I love CSGO and it's the only game that I have more than 3000 hours in, but it's obvious that the player base didn't leave because of a single map issue and the m4a1s was unusable.
I agree that the game does feel dated, but I almost find that part charming. I can't get into most modern shooters because it feels almost too polished and realistic. By that I mean the newer battlefield, cod and siege. I don't really know how to put it into words. I also love that because the engine is so brokenly predictable that you can definitely tell the difference between pros and someone who is just excellent at the game. Like I said, I love CSGO, but it is not a game for new people. It's impossible to want to improve in the game because of its current issues. Valve is no longer a game company, and they don't pretend to be. Riot is an esport company more than a game company, so I trust that they will take the game seriously and not leave the game to dry.
