Misconception about viewership

Viewerships don't earn the scene and riot as an extention money, like modern mba( great channel btw) puts it, viewership are just "vanity metrics" , but what viewership does is:

  1. Attract more orgs to join the scene, because more views = more merch purchased = orgs earns more money by tapping in the market

  2. Attracts more sponsors, more viewership = more exposure towards brands = more sponsors = more capital flowing in, this is why japan t2 have 16 sponsors in split 2 in contrast to other regions

  3. More skin sales, self-explanatory

  4. Generate interests around the scene

  5. Allows for more off season events

  6. Gives the region more leverage compared to others

  7. Etc

It should've been obvious and needs not to be said but I've seen many people here overestimates or underestimates what viewerships can do.

Trying to apply my marketing major here 😂

Jokes aside, I think to increase t2 viewerships you need to increase your playerbase in general. Or make your t2 a spectator sport like japan, where the views are abundant but doesn't translate to playerbase.

Maybe, riot can :

  1. make prx hold an off season where t2 sea teams vs prx , since sea is dying in viewerships and somehow everyone on sea only watches prx the exposure t2 teams receive would be great.

  2. Tap into mobile gaming segment

valorant mobile would either save southeast asia+south asia or completely fucking kill it
no in between

Pc gaming in sea are never as big as their mobile scene anyways except Vietnam and taiwan even those only apply to league. Might as well die trying 😅

Fr, this time prx has been very inactive joining only 1 off season while dfm and zeta joins 3, I do think there needs to be more tier1x tier 2 off-seasons especially in sea.

but if the competition format is too much of a hassle, org might not interested to invest

Maybe yes, but in the grand scheme of things it doesn't really matter. If riot can gain viewerships eventually orgs will tap in to valorant because why wouldn't they? Have you seen how hard fennel tried to squeeze the trio right till the very end before they left for zeta 😂. That's what a good viewership region can do to an org
