Ideal VCT system

TW: LONG. please read :3

  1. Imports: Each team will now allow for 2 import slots instead of 1. Keeping only a single import slot restricts real SUPERTEAMS from forming, while two slots makes more exciting teams while keeping competitive integrity in mind.

  2. Relagation: Most people give outlandish or unrealistic systems for relegation. As said by Leo Faria the partnership system is stable and reduces risk for orgs. Think of it from the perspective of the org owner of C9. The VCT system is a partnership league and Riot offers financial support, without which we might not have VCT. C9 are offered consistent money and stability within the partnership league, which allows them to pay their players and staff etc. If relegation is introduced then C9's future is uncertain and unstable. They can be kicked every year and in the current esports climate, it is not sustainable nor feasible for org owners and investors to participate in a relegation league.

Leo Faria did mention that every four years they review the teams and CAN kick orgs if deliverables/agreements are not met, imo this system is great already but to suit the rest of y'all I had an idea. If an org places in the bottom for two years in a row then that org will be kicked out of the partnership system. For example, if there are 10 teams and MIBR places 9th in 2023 and 10th in 2024 then they will NO LONGER be a part of VCT the next season. This allows for Riot to put pressure on teams not fully trying/putting effort while providing them stability and reducing risk. There is only risk if u are shit, and If u had a bad season last year you will KNOW beforehand that you will be kicked, reducing risk even further. It is not like we are kicking MIBR out with no notice for one bad season.

  1. Tier 2: There is so much risk and uncertainty in Tier 2 as of now. It is basically a lottery ticket at this point, orgs have to support a team for a full year with barely any support from Riot and in the end they might not even ascend. As said on Platchat a solution to this would be creating in-game purchases like skins that are limited-time, not exactly like the VCT team skins but like it could be any type of skin, whose earnings go to Tier 2. Riot will only act if it makes them money and this solution gives them incentive. They get a % and so do the major Tier 2 orgs. Another solution would be a Tier 2 tournament, nothing big just a small cash prize tournament. Riot should also work on having a standard across challengers because as of now the quality of the streams is mixed. They should also promote and market tier 2 more as it is important.

  2. Ascension: As I highlighted before, tier 2 is a mess. Take it from the perspective of Ludwig (owner of MXS), he invests into a team for two years and it is a total loss. His team gets picked apart by tier 1 teams and he gets literally nothing lmao. As Sideshow highlighted, the changes made this year to the ascension system are not ideal. From the perspective of G2, they were offered a two-year contract in the partnership system, while 2G is only offered a single-year contract. The reward is much lower for 2G. Orgs are supposed to gamble in Tier 2 for a year and pray that their team ascends and they get less reward for it in the current system. In the current tier 2 climate it is not profitable let alone sustainable to invest in a team since they might not even win. The changes are GOOD for the fantasy of an underdog team fighting up the way through the ladder and competing in tier 1 against all odds but as the org owner of MXS or M80 there is simply less incentive for them to invest in a team, less stability. idk if there even is a solution to this issue. Maybe extend the contracts to 2 years but keep the "fighting to keep your spot" part.

  3. Championship Points: 5 points for winning a Masters event, 3 points for coming in second place, 2 points for third place. The points for playoffs/kickoff are different thought, 3 points for first place, 2 points for second, 1 point for each win in playoffs. This keeps international events SPECIAL while keeping playoffs the same, we can't have the same reward for winning an international as beating DFM three times.

  4. Arena games: People feel like internationals don't feel special since only the UF, LF, GF and lower round 3 are played in stadiums/arenas. Sideshow proposed that they should keep it as it is but change it so that lower round 2 should be included as well since it is an elimination match and will make it more hype.

I hope people actually read this and that I did not waste my time lmaoo

the biggest problem I see is the tier 2 system, scary shit is that there is no realistic solution, franchising just prevents tier 2

there definitely isn't a single solution for all its problems but riot should at least try, currently they are ignoring it

hmm good points overall

I think with the upgrade to Unreal 5 it might allow them to actually put out a replay system
