ascension fix

after we have this year ascension (12 teams in each league), the system we have been given is fucked. it makes no sense and is kinda just bad lol.

i cooked up in a reply this system and wanted to give it it’s own post

instead of force relegating the team from ascension if they dont make playoffs, we do like this: bottom 2 teams from each league (#11 and #12) play the top 2 teams from tier 2 (decided from two ascension-esque events). the top 2 teams go to/stay in franchise and the bottom 2 go to challengers of their region or are fully relegated (this is harder to work, i have ideas but cba cooking them right now)

two ascension tournaments each year (one in july and one in december).
two splits, a july or august ascension depending on champs, a third split, then a november or december ascension (after gc champs). we then have relegation tournaments with a format of

m1 Ascension winner vs franchise team
m2 Ascension winner vs franchise team

m3 m1 winner vs m2 winner
m4 m1 loser vs m2 loser

m5 m4 winner vs m3 loser (lower finals / bo5)

m6 m5 winner vs m3 winner (grand final / bo5 / m3 winner with double ban)

To make it easy, the higher seeded franchise team (e.g 10th higher seed than 11th) could pick their opponents for match 1/2
both teams in m6 will qualify for franchising, idk if there should also be cash prize for it to incentive trying and allow for roster changes once qualified

ok now go say this to the partnered orgs and see if they accept (spoilers: they won't)

saying franchised teams can be relegated is the recipe to not have money on the T1 scene.

yeah clearly they’re gonna be unhappy but we shouldnt be babying them. even like, british football (one of the biggest sports, huge fanbase and massive orgs) has proper relegation, in honesty the franchise system is kinda chalked already and relegation means theres proper incentive to build good teams rather than being able to just MIBR/FURIA out and make a bag from doing nothing,

Premier league can afford relegating teams bro, riot cannot

The teams will simply pull out of the league and invest in a different esport if they don't have a guaranteed spot

its so cringeee the way they can just go dead last and still stay.

yeah it sucks but its not 2018 anymore. money isnt being thrown at these orgs but random rich people. they've taken their losses and have said no more of that shit

This isnt something that would actually work in the current ecosystem but I also think the raw format is way better than what we have right now

Then certain teams wont get proper representation
what if the bottom 2 teams of pacific is both Japanese
and they get relegated
imagine how much money and viewership riot would lose if that happened
or if 2 brazilian teams get relegated in americas
and 2 north american teams get added instead
thye lose more viewership

from a rito standpoint its bad from a comp standpoint its good
(less money for rito but more actual teams cause its the actual best teams)

Ofc riot would choose the money option 😅

id argue its better for the community and the growth of the game
rather than just a benefit for riot
going back on my example
jp gets representation, more players invested in esports
more jp viewers
more likey for other japanese gamers to get involved in the game even if it is casually

im talking about raw competition for the league itsself (maybe in the long term this works)

It's starting to work tbh ( in my opinion for jp at least).

More local young talents starting to show up on vcj .

I guess all that money that riotJP put is actually worthwhile

so u are saying its okay if pacific to have trash league player & the important thing is have lots of viewers ? compared to having a strong league and having best quality players who deserve to be in Tier 1

i get it its all about money & the growth of the game, but it will kill the regeneration and young players who wants to grind

ngl if u young & want to have an Esport career i will tell people, I would rather play CS2 than Valorant.

because in Valorant they care more about money than the quality & skill of the players, Unlucky

Riot does esport as a business not for the most competitive esport ever. thats why you are only allowed 1 import player, partnership teams etc

essentially this doesnt work in a monetary standpoint so its never gonna happen
