vent: argentinians and racism

i swear that i have tried multiple times not to generalize and say “nono but they’re the minority, i cant think like that”. but nah.

from self experience, what it looks like is that argentinians who aren’t racists are the exceptions. you can downvote me to oblivion, but shit looks SO BAD that this is how it feels.

and i don’t even mean the rivals in esports, the rage quitter racist in your csgo lobby. i mean anywhere. i’ve met people who looked so nice but soon exhibited explicit racism. it once made me mad, but now it just makes me sad. sad that this is even a thing in 2024

yeah i think that's overarchingly the case in most countries. some of the social strife is less race related in places like brazil and more channeled towards classism and other types of prejudice but for the most part you can never really tell what people are thinking behind their actions

my belief, and what i consider the optimist's take, is that racism in most circumstances are just the result of lack of education and experience than a deeper, primordial hate. it's very easy to believe certain things when you never really have the opportunity to get those beliefs disproven to your face

people associate racism with america but the reality is that's only because america is the most socially developed in actually tackling those issues. in lots of european and asian countries they have all sorts of race guided vitriol that just is passively accepted into the background. no discussions about it = must not be a big deal xd

it's good to remember that social progress doesn't really happen overnight as much as that would be nice. realistically in the scale of the world legal inequality, slavery, apartheid, etc all are very close to present day. to fully move past takes a long gradual process. and a lot of hateful old people dying lol

you can't just hate a country based on a percentage of people, even if they make up for most of it, LOUD has a perfect example of an Argentinean that isnt racist, there are regions in brazil where people are racist and xenophobic as fuck too but it doesnt make sense to hate everyone from those people because of some rotten apples
