do you know how every sport ever works
the crowd cheers for the home team
esports will never be as big as regular sports bc of soft twinks who cry when people have bias (normal human emotion)
braveD1 [#2]it’s more cuz it’s stupid that a political thing is getting in the way of esports like i agree it doesn’t rly matter but like i understand why ppl are upset at the same time
I get it, but maintaining the point of the whole thing is that the players perform for the fans, not the other way around
People should be upset with politicians not the fans/players who have 0 involvement with the military or the government

Sports have always been deeply related to politics, religion, patriotism etc
Dont see why E-sports wouldn't, since they mimic sports
bearmans [#7]we talking about shanghai? geng should be the one on the "home team" side, btw.
Yep like Asia is going to get their first trophy(FPS) in a decade or so and they were cheering for TH lol

The thing is politics is inherently tied to nationalism. Whilst I wouldn't go as far as saying crowds are 'Nationalistic' it is similar to the 'home team' concept. The issue with VCT in this context is that riot themselves try and police what is right and wrong.
Rei5 [#3]"Home Team" ->Heretics🫠
Yeah because Woot gained quite the fanbase throughout the tournament.

I'm not defending salty Chinese netizens who disrespect players n all
but politics is just such an impactful thing, GenG as a gaming org shouldn't really touch on these sensitive topics if they want to maintain a reputation and give their players the best experience

They have but the majority of val fanbase is younger so some lack a lot of historical context to why sports are the way they are
bearmans [#7]we talking about shanghai? geng should be the one on the "home team" side, btw.
They probably would've if their PR didn't fumble

The Chinese fans are the one who choose to brings politics into sports. They're the politicians themselves and deserved all the hate.
