Im in the age group between 18-21 and a lot of people I know are going to travel to exotic countries now (or have already done that).

Am I the only one who doesn’t get the fascination behind Solo traveling while being a broke 18-21 year-old?

I imagine it being very lonely and even though you might see nice places and meet the person of your dreams (number 1 stereotype with traveling for me), you most probably will have to work some hard 9-5 jobs in these countries all the time to keep going.

What do y’all think about this?

Still, I’m feeling a bit flattened when thinking about persons I know or even loved maybe having the times of their lives in other countries meanwhile I’m kinda wasting my time here.

They are growing while I’m stagnating.. it’s a disgusting feeling and the only reason I might start thinking about solo travel myself.

They are growing while I'm stagnating is bars. Anyways solo traveling is pretty fun, but it is more fun with friends imo. If you want to travel by yourself then go for it.

I’m not passionate about it you get me? During the holidays it’s quite nice to get out of your city and get to know new places and countries but I don’t necessarily have to travel for 6 months or even a year.

It’s just the constant comparison with others. Why do they love traveling so much? Why don’t I have their drive to go out and explore the world?
Why am I sitting in my room all day and wasting my time?

How do they accomplish these things so well even though they’re not as clever as me?

Not every experience leads to a positive development, a growth; sometimes it stunts you instead. Don't rush into something, try to be better than you were yesterday and keep trying, we can never distinct the different stages of growth, but we notice it once we reach high enough.

I feel you, my friend is going on a Japan transfer, others are constantly doing things and here I am, always perturbed by whether I am making any progress or not. I don't know if things will work out, or if I am even doing the right thing but I can't think that far ahead, I can't predict the future, I can't even predict who I'll be by the end of this year. So, I just try to take one step at a time.

We all enjoy different things, I do like travelling but I can't anymore but do not think of yourself as any less for not liking something, just take it as you being more unique than them :)

It's easy to say "dw" or just give advice, but I hope things work out for you, good luck.

A good place to start could be finding new places to explore that are close to you/in the town or city you're currently living in. Comparing yourself to people who are travelling the world is a pretty big jump, so taking it one step at a time and finding new experiences close to home might help.

Agree, I think comparing yourself to people in general isn't always a good thing, I'm someone that does that a lot and it caused me to be very self-conscious of everything I do.

I think the passion to travel comes with the fact that we have a short time in this world and we don't wanna miss out and regret not doing anything. There is a chance we could die tomorrow, or next week, you never know when, what I'm trying to say is just live your life a little more, doesn't mean you have to travel overseas, it's as simple as just going to the beach, or just hanging out with friends, do whatever gives you joy even if it is staying at home.

I am fascinated at the idea of solo traveling but I know that if I actually do it I won’t have any idea what to do and just feel isolated lolz

Why not? I think it could be fun to travel with someone like Simp4S0m. Perhaps you could consider giving them a chance?

i think the whole point for a lot of people is that its a very social thing, you have to meet loads of new people, make friends, learn different cultures etc. It really depends on how you go about it but it doesn't have to be a lonely thing at all.

It's not for everyone though, I really like solo camping and not interacting with anyone, I wouldn't enjoy having to interact with lots of new people but for some thats the whole experience

I sure hope I can travel to a myriad of places when I grow up!

Feeling lonely depends a lot on your personality/character imo. I find alone time calming and even tranquil at times. Makes for a good opportunity to get some personal reflection in.
