I mean, i think Messi is the best football player of all time but Ronaldo is definitely comparable . Also the argument is: Modric peak is definitely the 2nd best out of all the midfielders with Zizou being first. Modric has been an amazing midfielder for almost 20 years, longevity has not been matched by any midfielder. Also Xavi, Iniesta, Kroos, Xabi, Özil, KDB and many more great midfielders were at their prime or close to it when Modric was the best midfielder itw. It's not Modric's fault that Xavi or Iniesta didn't have his longevity and faded out at 32-33. Modric's world cup. 2018 is again, probably the 2nd best out of all the midfielders. Zizou beating him out once again. Ballon d'or is there to help his case further. 5 CLs where he was Real's most important midfielder and best midfielder itw too
Modric hasnt been the best midfielder for 20 years, he only started being in the conversation of best midfielders itw at the age of 27-28, he has had 10 good years but so have others, they just had it earlier than him.
Balon dor really doesnt mean much cus the only reason Xavi and Iniesta didnt win it is cus Messi and Ronaldo were in their prime, like dont tell me you think Benzema is better than Suarez, Lewa, Henry, Aguero, Zlatan just cus of balon dor cus he doesnt even come close to them.
and tbh messi or ronaldo should have won the 2018 balon dor too, also I hate how Modric gets all the credit for Coratia's WC run when Rakatic, Perisic and Mandzukic were just as impressive, Modric was still their best player but it wasnt a carryjob like everyone states it to be.
He is a one of the greatest midfielders oat but if we are not including maradona or dinho I would still put Xavi, Iniesta, Zizou above him comfortably also didnt really watch Mathaus so cant really comment on him.
Modric prime beats Xavi's and Iniesta prime and he also has the longevity. So how can Xavi and Iniesta be "confortably ahead"? I dont agree with that at all, Xavi and Iniesta in their prime were basically unplayable, they gave 10/10 performance every single game and won everything imaginable while dominating every competition, Modric gives 8/10 performances mostly and drops a 10/10 here and there, also the longevity argument doesnt make sense cus Modric had his breakout season in 15/16 or 14/15 as far as I can remember and he was already pushing 30 by that time.
He was a good midfielder before 15/16 he wasnt even close to being the best itw at that time, I would say the amount of time Xavi and Iniesta were contending for best itw title is probably the same as Modric thats why longevity argument doesnt make sense and imo their prime is much higher than modric be that due to them being in a better team under a better manager, I am not gonna ignore that.
Don't take it personally but it seems from your comments that you're extremely new to football and don't view it very often. Modric has been an elite midfielder since his spurs days. Of course he couldn't be in consideration for the best midfielder itw since he played for spurs like i said before. Since 2007-08 he has been world class as someone who has watched football since a little kid
If you asked people from 07-14 they would literally name 20 midfielders better than Modric in an instant, he hasnt been world class since 07-08 stop with your biases and delusion, and I am not taking any of it personally cus I still havent heard a argument from you that has made me think he is better than or close to the 3 I mentioned above, it just feels like you are backed in a corner and all you can resort to is belitling me with not knowing ball comments and i am new to football comments.
