Masters vs Champs

Feels like valorant has a weird relationship between how people view the distinction between masters and champions events vs how riot expects us to view them. The community sees champs and masters as on the same prestige level, while riot sees it is a step higher, a more important trophy than masters ever could be. As far as I know this doesn’t really happen in other games, in CS it’s clearly more prestigious to win the Major vs winning Cologne, Katowice, or the Blast World Finals, and in League, Worlds is far more prestigious than MSI ever could be. Is it just a product of us not having international tourneys until like 2 years after release? Or something else

they’re basically the same but each year, champs prize pool is increasing more

I don’t think it’s the prize pool, Cologne has a very similar prize pool to the Paris Major in CS

I think people do treat Champions as more important event. It's just that 2 of last events were masters and that's all we can talk about.
People also give more importance to each of those because they are won by the same team which is very cool and never seen before in Valorant.

usually its the same teams from masters anyway, and the only difference is that everyone goes through group stage instead of the 2nd-3rd seed

Ik. I’m just saying champs is becoming more prestigious each year even tho the actual tournament is basically Masters. Valorant barely has any tournaments so not much to compare

ya I agree that minimizes the importance of champs, masters is pretty much a feeding tournament into Champs which minimizes both tbh.

I think champs is and should be treated as a high accomplishment. I don't like it when people call Masters winners world champions. Only 10 players should be called that. But I hear teams doing that, casters doing that, and players doing that.

its basically the same thing just that the prize pool for champs increased this year. I think riot is trying to make champs stand out more but its pretty hard. In league they have msi but no one really cares bout it. Now worlds is the big thing that everyone cares about bc it has hella money but also its the most viewed esport event every year.

Champions is like what worlds is to LoL. Masters is not the same thing, you fucking get a song and a skin bundle just for that tournament. Its more special. Think as in csgo terms masters is iem cologne and champions is major.

people in the community refer to masters winners as world champions, and whenever people talk about Majors and what regions ahve the most Major wins, they include Masters in that Major tier

w post, people must understand that champions have to be treated like major on cs:go, and masters like a big international event during the year, but not the most important one, that is champions

it's kind of tough to make them distinct when they have such similar formats

do songs and skin bundles matter when it is the same format and teams? actual tournament is the same
