The Oceania tour is for the winning team to go over to NA for last chance qualifiers to try and qualify for champions. OCE teams have to qualify through NA. Riot abandoned the OCE region months ago.

The Reyna pick on ascent is a bit iffy too. I’m guessing if they lose the summer champs and do badly in the Vct qualifier the roster might get dropped or players might split. They can’t be using the new meta excuse and them needing to adapt as they’ve been in NA for 3 months now and they’ve been a team for 8-9 months.

Sometimes, it's not about the comps, but about the players skill and playstyle. What are you saying there is contradictory: "stick to what has been working... and adapt to the meta..." . First of all, if someone is sticking to what he used to do, it means that he's repeating the same process as in the past that led him to success. While adapting to the meta equals trying out new stuff, new comps which means that the level of uncertainty will only increase... until proven successful.
For your understanding, you cannot put 2 players to play a game and expect the same results. That also applies to teams using the same comps (which are Tier 1; 2). If other Tier 1 teams from NA would have used the same comps as Soniqs, they would have won flawlessly. But here you have to admit the fact that the opposite team is way better.
In conclusion, they lost because game sense and heavy fundamentals difference.
