Basically there's a league and to participate with your team you need to purchase a slot.
Why some ppl dislike it? Because the teams that can't purchase it are left out and the teams that do purchase it are mostly rich orgs.

This makes the t1 scene strong and stuns the t2 scene

teams dont pay in Valorant acc to leaks, they get money, its just that riot wants more control and apply their self righteousness in Valorant too

there are some non-valve tournaments/leagues that it is possible for you to buy/sell slots, but they are not the major events on the year

yes. but the system is a bit different with the one in LOL or valorant. in CS, ESL and are the authority of the franchise system, not valve. those who joined the franchise will got invited to their main events such as ESL Pro League, IEM etc. and the team that didn't joined the franchise still managed to play the event through open qualify. so their franchise system didn't kill the less rich orgs or lower tier scene. i think Blast also have their own franchise tournament, and the system is similiar if im not mistaken.
