The skill ceiling thing will always be fucking hilarious to me. As if a game requires a high skill ceiling to have a stand-out talent.

I'd say Chess comparatively has a lower ceiling than pretty much any esport, just because there are fewer things that are possible to do. Yet, people like Magnus Carlsen exist.

(Chess undoubtedly has an average skill much, much closer to the ceiling than any esport, though.)

if you're a T1 player on a T1 org, which is maybe 50 players total, yes.

Otherwise, I'd imagine the 50K US starting salary in the OWL is at the very least comparable, if not larger.

nukkye is the only S+ player.

it's unbelievable that he gets that much individual impact while also IGL-ing pretty well. There's really just nobody who compares - nobody igls well enough to offset the gap in individual impact, no fragger gets enough individual impact to offset the fact that they do not igl.

Close behind him at tier S, I'd place Keznit, Derke, Chronicle, and nAts for excelling in their roles. cNed and Yay also fit. Possibly even Sacy and Trent if they show up at this event.

Nobody else really comes close to these players right now, imo. In the future, Valyn, Aspas, Jingg, and F0rsaken could be there too.

predicting an esports (or really, a sports) tournament's outcomes is really fucking hard if not nigh-impossible when there are so many factors that influence the outcome.

the reason their takes are parrotted is because they offer at least some evidence from games to support their arguments (most of the time), not because they're accurate.

It's just that they're one of few places that offer arguments that are supported with evidence. That's naturally a lot better than "team a will do good at event b because player c is good".

Predicting anything about any sport is extremely difficult because of the number of factors that can influence every outcome, many of which are entirely hidden to the general public - players' mentals, sleep and rest, nerves, the list goes on.

I think it'd just end up placing an extra burden on the already difficult role of the IGL.

I guess it would be a nice way to reward more strategic teams, but honestly, I think it would be more like an inconvenience that IGLs would soon get used to rather than being a skill that is constantly improved.

The coach of Acend is practicing baiting.

Is this a sign that Acend will sign Hiko to igl and replace Kiles !?

ACEND HIKO !!!

Every agent cannot be a mainstay. Neon has her niche on some maps, with some teams' compositions.

M3C, Optic, and Paper Rex have all used her in important games to decent success.

I think her place in the game is healthy, with the exception of her ultimate which I think needs changes to be viable in pro-play.

Is there data on the time before the first kill in a match? I think from the perspective of a viewer, the time the op player takes to get frags contributes more to their "excitement" levels, so that might be cool to see.

Nonetheless, this is interesting. Particularly surprising is Surf's insane 90% success rate! That's ridiculous. Leaf being at 50%, is odd. I think it may be because he tends to use the rifle rather than the op.

they get shit on a lot of being streamers, but it really does seem to be paying its dividends to the org.

punching above orgs like KOI,100T, and Faze, which are well known for their content focus, is pretty crazy for an org that really only has popular signings in three esports.

biggest surprise: PRX
biggest disappointment: G2

This tournament is interesting because the teams that would theoretically have the highest expectations aren't attending or have had extenuating circumstances coming into this tournament. I don't think there are many teams that could really have a performance that is considered a "disappointment" because of this.

i don't have any evidence but from what I watched DRX's postplants were really solid - holding crosses, good spacing, util, the works.

what cucked them was getting picked on the entry into site then floudering for the remaining 1 minute before bursting into another site and losing to numbers.

I kinda disagree with the Gambit comparison, since their strength lies in their rock-solid fundamentals and fantastic calling whereas with a team like DRX, it seems like they rely more on elaborate site execs and a deep playbook - similar to Fnatic in a way.
