My guess is that Riot doesn't want to let Gambit compete as an org, so they are putting the pressure onto them. Let's remember the whole squad (players, coaches, staff, etc.) is contracted by Gambit, therefore linked to Gambit. It is Gambit decision to let their team play under another banner. So I don't have a clue if Gambit would permit it or not.
