Why do pros peek mutilple people

Like every time they're in 1vX and they know there are mutilple ppl holding them they just swing.
Surely there are better plays than just swinging and hoping multiple people whiff and you hit an insane transfer?
I get that waiting means the other team can set up a crossfire that's hard to beat, but the swing on multiple people is less than 1% chance of winning, I've seen all kind of players in all regions do it in clutch and I don't get it.

bc in almost every 1vX situation, the x will be playing a crossfire so either way its basically impossible. also depends on the agent and the util you have left but still
