Why are there so many orgs in EMEA Franchising that didn't make VCT Challengers 2022?

Giants: No Namers

Heretics: No Namers

KOI: No Namers

Vitality: No Namers (they played in vrl i guess)

FUT: No Namers (they won in vrl i guess)

wasted fucking spots (maybe fut and vitality werent)

3 spanish teams, 2 french ones, 2 turkish ones but 1 cis team, 0 eastern europe teams and 0 german teams (FNC and TL are just multinational EU, NaVi are full CIS)

its about the orgs not the players

partnership teams are the teams that Riot wants to work with to build the esport, theyre getting money from Riot, and will build new rosters for the partnership league

previous results arent a huge factor (ie Optic/FaZe)

#3

I took that into consideration and it still made 0 fucking sense

KCORP maybe cause they have a massive fanbase in france, but FUT and fucking GIANTS? it makes 0 sense, turkish teams already have BBL for representation (they could've given acend a spot for that cNed farming anyway), spain has wayy too many spots already even without giants

1 fucking CIS team man

0 VRL Northern/DACH team even though they got a lot of fans up here

rito is not prioritizing quality or even viewership, wtf are they prioritizing?

#6

no politics but CIS should be lucky they got 1

and idk about the other teams but their proposals must have been solid, idk

ok maybe i was reaching a bit far with Polaris but VRL DACH brought in 10x the viewers that giants do

From what i can understand, Giants has a deep relationship with Riot because of LoL, they actually were really strong contenders to making in into the european franchises back then... Riot really took this into consideration for picking them up

my brain may be small but i know that partnership is just viewership + clout + org money

giants: 0 viewership

FUT: 5 fans

KOI & Heretics combined fan count: 3

Vitality i was coping with, they have fans + massive clout

anyway

no dach teams even though their vrl viewership stats werent even that bad

and no eastern europe teams even though vrl east was doing alright as well (tho ig the orgs there are pretty poor)

#14
babysasuke

I think fans outside of Valorant counts too

If the orgs actually had no fans, they wouldnt have any income, and wouldnt have gotten the invites

#11
Sh1rpie
0
Frags

then wtf man, FPX should've gotten in purely based off their stats in LoL and we should've seen a Team Spirit/Gambit in there as well

Then again politics, they wouldn't allow any org that fields/has fielded russian rosters unless its NaVi cause they're with ukraine 100%

#22
babysasuke
0
Frags

Again, no politics but you can't be surprised at the lack of CIS representation

and FPX is a Chinese org

#10
titanwithpp

BBL and FUT carry TR viewership
Giants isn't a viewership heavy org but its a stable org financially
KOI and Heretics have spanish fans

#14
Sh1rpie
0
Frags

yeah but is 2 really needed for turkey

still no german orgs

koi & giants could probably carry spanish viewership solo like gambit solo carried russia viewership or how sen carried LCQ viewership

still like, i feel like they could've sneaked in more VRL regions in the partnerships without compromising any popular region in any major way

#17

True, I believe an org like BIG could have gotten in, but then again I dont think BIG is that big of an org.

#18

Sure there are orgs that could have made it like BIG for germany, CR for JP but there are reasons why they were denied
CR for example messed up their paperwork

giants- big money, they had a good team back in 2021 until G2 decided to nuke it.
FUT- big turkish fanbase
KOI- Ibai
Heretics- Hugee spanish fanbase

ok so is there like a civil war in turkey about who watching bbl vs FUT or something

why include both if fut has all the viewers (ive not seen ONE bbl game pull more than like, 20k viewers max)

#24
Mortadelo
0
Frags

I agree, two Turkish teams might have been excessive, maybe a Dach org instead would have been better the problem is that Riot didn't like the top Dach orgs, they had some not very good stuff internally apparently, so yeah

#62
61Hiko

That's just not true lol.
If BBL plays, the Owner is most likely doing a watchparty and he gets 70-100k+ viewers

#63

ok but point still stands
2 TR teams while 0 german teams is wasteful af considering that emea league is being hosted in berlin next year

BBL was 100% in, FUT did a lot of stuff like open watch parties, collabs more and more. I never hear anything about BIG (prob the only DACH org in consideration for franchise league)
And FUT pulls up numbers too.
I would have liked to see a DACH team too, but instead of one of the three spanish orgs

What about some like Team Spirit or something? Big CS organizers like BLAST & EPL had no problem with letting CIS teams play?

cis viewership is low + the community backlash if they let a russian organization in

#26
Mortadelo
0
Frags

Okay so, we don't really know to what extent Team Spirit applied for franchising in Valorant, but the CIS Valorant community still has to grow a lot and the whole scene is just too shaky rn because of the war, if the war didn't happen I'm sure they would have had 2 spots

#27
Sh1rpie
0
Frags

gg, man the war fucked everything (gambit's era, ACEND's era, FPX chances in m1, boombl4's career, even the franchise league)

#30
Mortadelo
0
Frags

This is not definitive don't worry, this is not actual franchising, in 4 years RIOT gets to choose who gets in all over again, it's not definitive. Hopefully everything is good by then

#34
Sh1rpie
0
Frags

ok if no more russia wars start in 4 years we will get gambit and zeek back in valorant

finally something possible

#37
Mortadelo
0
Frags
+

Well, idk what the situation is with GMB rn, idk if they will be able to recover and be an org anymore, but if they do and they get to move their Cs fanbase to Valorant Riot would definitely consider them ofc

About zeek, pretty sure he will be in franchising this year I don't see why he wouldn't get picked up

#39
Sh1rpie
0
Frags

Zeek (maybe other than t0nz and d3ff0) had possibly the worst falloff in valorant history after champs, he's a risky investment for suree

#41

#22

It's between how much money orgs are willing to invest + how good is the project proposal in terms of business.

People has to consider that some orgs don't have the economic solvency for franchising. Also not that much people notices that some orgs simply don't like the franchising system or aren't interested in Valorant.

#25
Sh1rpie
0
Frags
+

ah, fair

tbf secret never fielded a val roster so that was probably a bad example. G2? Again, massive viewership, clout and money. and again, responsible TO's haven't had any problems with letting G2 play despite the carlos stuff (which ig doesnt matter anymore, but it did matter at the time)

or maybe HEROIC? Astralis? Many ppl had them pegged to get in. big clout in other games, could ez pull in tens of k's of viewership, and afaik big pockets

#28
Mortadelo
0
Frags
+

G2 was punished for what Carlos did, they had a last minute meeting to kick them out, it was just a bad timing, but they already had their spot in NA locked and the start of a deal with XSet's roster

Astralis is not a solid org economically and they have done horrible in LOL (basically signing tier 2 teams knowing they were gonna place last but not caring about it cause they just wanted the money Riot is giving them) So yeah no chance with them

Heroic has mainly Danish fanbase and the nordic countries and CIS are still very CS regions that haven't been able to grow in Valorant. Copenaghen masters was literally half empty

#29
Sh1rpie
0
Frags
+

FPX? Did they not get in because of the half russian roster or because of low clout? afaik they're pretty big in LoL

#31
Mortadelo
0
Frags

Russian roster had nothing to do with it imo, feel like it was more the Clout, they do have a huge fanbase but it's Chinese, going back t their region is what's best for Riot interest Ig

#33
Sh1rpie
0
Frags

I mean they could've dropped their eu roster and applied into apac then? I feel like the EDG roster under FPX banner would be nice but then again chinese val isnt big cause it isnt even out in the mainland yet

#35

with how well LoL does in china, riot being owned by Tencent (chinese lap dog company) and connections i think that they're getting the voice chat system tweaked to the CCP's liking and setting up server infrastructure, no way riot and china havent been in talks to open val in china already

Yes, I agree BIG should have been in, instead of either Giants or Futbolist who are the smaller orgs even tho they are huge. Imo should have been Fut, Ik I'm biased but at the end of the day giants is an Spanish org yeah but European roster, so kinda neutral, meanwhile fut is just 5 more Turkish players

#49
Sh1rpie
0
Frags

Turkish viewership has always been cNed & FUT anyway, BBL should've gotten excluded if anything

but ye 2 turkey and 0 germany is fucked, divide turkey viewership + spit on dach viewership, weird decisionmaking by riot on that one

#51
Mortadelo
0
Frags

BBL is bigger than Futbolist. Similar case to KOI, Heretics and KCORP, all owned by huge influencers. BBL has wtcN who is huge and always pulls +100k watchparties unlike Fut

#53

Giants was one of the first orgs to fully invest in valorant, they have a solid fanbase and they are involved in the spanish speaking scene so it makes sense Riot decided to reward their project. They are not the most clouted nor they have an inmense fanbase like other orgs but they are the exact type of org that Riot can count to do the right things for developing the esport.

#54
Mortadelo
0
Frags

Yeah I totally think they deserve it, just saying if you had to take someone out it would be them or Fut

#56
Sh1rpie
0
Frags

yeah, the lesser popular turkish team goes back to ascension so that bbl can pull all the turkish viewers without wasting a slot (which i think they can do) and they put big in

turkish val has already had a lot of development with stars like qw1 and cNed in the scene unlike german valorant, german val only has teams qualifying to challengers and frankfurt servers for representation (+ why would you not add german orgs if ur gonna host emea league in berlin anyway?!?!)
