Someone please explain to me how do LANs work ... Won't the observer screen which is showing the match to the IRL audience be right behind/front of the players?

in Masters it is NOT played on any screen afaik
in local LANs it is played on a screen behind the players so that they cant see it

the screen should be anywhere the players can't see i think
that's how it works in cs

Well in c9 vs faze Boston major...the c9 players were right in front of the screen

They we're under the screens, the screens were above them and they were a little bit behind them so that only the stands can see.. it was kinda cool

Pretty sure the admins would be watching the players to ensure no one looks at the screen if it's visible from where they are, and I assume a pretty harsh penalty for doing so.
