American has two commom meanings. Either a person from the US or a person from either of the two american continents. He's technically correct. And believe me there's a whole discussion in south america about people from USA calling themselves american for being from USA as if the whole world revolves around them. If anything, he is the most based person from USA in that regard

Yeah, but "American" literally means person from USA in this context. That's their official name. As much as "British" for someone from UK (obv they have Welsh, English, Scottish etc but overall).

but they aren't from USA that I was referring to in this comment and that I even corrected in my reply. And you can even assume that from original comment that was comparing British and American. Wouldn't make sense to compare country to 2 continents.
