Why in other countries do people consider their ethnicity more than the country they were born in? I see a lot of koreans who consider themselves as korean instead american
But here in Brazil there's a lot of Japanese and 99% of them consider themselves as Brazilian and not as Japanese itself. Why?

Because Brazil is one of the most multi-ethnic countries in the world and thus nationality is a better way to integrate all ethnicity, something similar is true for India

I mean some NA streamers that I watch (Korean ethnicity) consider themselves as Korean but not as American (Where they born)
I'm asking if It's common for other countries to consider ethnicity >>> were you born.
Because here in Brazil people consider themselves as Brazilian even being from another ethnicity

Because U.S itself a country don't have own culture/heritage/language etc. So people moved there to live and keep their cutures

Some people think it's a dishonor to fit in and adopt the country's traditions

Because US is one of the most diverse places on earth, there isn't one type of people that u associate with America, like Americans could be 20 different ethnicities

Copypasting this from a thread asking about what race Brazilians are:

There’s no such thing as “American (US)” or “Brazilian” ethnicity (unless you count the natives, but they’re now a small minority unfortunately). Instead, you are American (US) or Brazilian if you were born there. There’s a reason why most countries in the Americas have birthright citizenship (https://worldpopulationreview.com/country-rankings/countries-with-birthright-citizenship). Brazil in particular is a diverse mix of European settlers, American natives, imported African slaves, and even some Indian and East Asian immigrants. But they’re all Brazilian if they’ve been there long enough. This can be hard to understand for Europeans who have a strong link between ethnicity and nationality, but we have to remember that this is not the only way to define a country and is just the way Europe does it

TLDR: To be Brazilian means to be from Brazil, not to be of a certain ethnicity or race

So basically, what this is saying is that countries in the new world tend to do it by birthplace while in the old world it’s more by ethnicity.
