it just shows how much you have posted, new users start at 0 stars (as well as suspended accounts) and gain per post (you usually get 4 stars around 500 posts with low interaction, but can get it sooner if you get a lot of upvotes). the only real benefit this gives is shorter cooldown in between posts, as you start at 3mins cooldown and get down to 30s at 4 stars
