Idea I Had for 2022 Champions

Participants
Start off with 20 teams instead of the 16 we have now, this way we can reward the regions who performed well during the 2021 VCT

  • The 2 Finalists of Masters 3 (NV and Gambit if we did this right now for example)
  • Top 3 NA teams
  • Top 3 EMEA teams
  • Top 2 BR teams
  • Top 1 LATAM team
  • Top 2 KR team
  • Top 1 JP team
  • Top 2 SEA team
  • 1 LCQ slot per continent like we have now

This should elevate the level of competition up a bit, now that more NA & EMEA teams can participate, as well as give Korea a deserved slot with how well they've done at the past 2 Masters events.

Group Stage

  • 4 groups, 5 teams each, all 5 play against one another in Round Robin
  • Attempt to diversify each group (idk specifically how this would be done, ideally each group would have at least 1 NA and 1 EMEA, some would likely have multiple of those though because NA and EU are most likely to win Masters events)
  • the top 3 of each group moves on to the playoffs

Playoffs

Issues

  • Riot's LANs for LCQs are only about a week long. The amount of games needed to be played would be too much in that time, so there'd need to be multiple games being broadcasted at once or Riot would need to begin hosting longer events
  • Trying to allocate regions into groups will be even more of a pain then it was this year, with a group of death being probably even more likely now
  • The future with COVID & travel restrictions would be unknown, so some teams might not be able to attend the event
  • With China just recently getting Valorant, it might work out better to give them a slot instead of the Masters 2 runner-up, so they aren't in the situations that minor regions like south asia or arabia are in

Just wanted to know your guys' thoughts on a tournament format like this. The current VCT system in general kinda bugs me with how it's structured, not only on this level but also with point allocation and how minor regions are incorporated only into LCQ, so it'd be cool to hear what you guys think.

Here is my idea on how riot should proceed for next champions :

I am assuming that all the official tourneys(which will have impact on slot distribution) will be LANs & double elimination

NA+Oce: 4 slots
EU+CIS+TR: 5 Slots
Middle East + North Africa: 1 slots
APAC north(Korea, Japan, China): 3 slots
APAC south(SEA & SA): 3 slots
LATAM+BR: 4 slots

Total : 20

Now for LCQs,

APAC(both north(4 teams) & south(4 teams) combined): 1 slot
NA(6 teams)+OCE(2 teams): 1 slot
EMEA(You can help me with this): 1 slot
South America(Latam(4 teams) & BR(4 teams)): 1 slot

Total: 4 slots

Grand Total: 24 teams

I guess cs major format would be a good choice for chmapions as well.

Sadge that you didn't consider Middle east & South Asia ;(

Would love to know others' opinion here <3

Thanks & Regards,

imo remove one slot from apac north/south and give it to winner of masters 3

Then -1 slot from LATAM+BR & APAC north for winner of masters 3 & 4.

I really like your idea of having APAC North and South. I know PUBG has a very similar system with the Global Championship (small fun fact, I was in the same high school as Snakers, who's PUBG team just entered PGC as the #1 NA seed)

I didn't consider MENA because ideally, I would have them competing alongside turkey in their challengers for EMEA instead of just LCQ, maybe give them their own slots in Challengers Playoffs even

South Asia I didn't mention because logistically I thought that putting them with SEA might have some issues regarding ping, so I couldn't decide where to place them (i'm not from that region but if i had to guess it'd be like 100-150 ping to connect to SEA servers)

The main changes I would personally make would be to take give Masters 3 winner a slot (it's a tossup who i'd take the slot away from) or to put OCE with SEA so that they don't need to travel so far each time

but definitely some good ideas!

Giving LATAM+BR 4 slots while KR+JP+CN 3 is kind of brutal imo

JP - brings in a crazy amount of viewership
KR - has a top 5 team and the rest of the region is about on par with SEA
CN - it's Riot, they will definitely make sure the game succeeds in CN because of the potential market

On the other hand:
BR - has gotten 5-6th and 9-12th place at best and has okay viewership (not as good as JP's though due to CS still being popular)
LATAM - underrated region, but don't really have insane (top 5) teams or high viewership (kind of like a worse CIS/KR region)

In the future, when Valorant has potentially died down in Asia, I could see this happening, but atm, I strongly disagree with giving BR+LATAM more slots than APAC North

APAC North has overperformed internationally in 2021 while BR hasn't accomplished much

Otherwise, I agree with most of your slot allocations

yeah, these exact thoughts were running through my head

my comment at #8 originally had this exact idea for swapping the slot over, but I edited it to include a masters 3 slot, which honestly you might not need at this point but I still like the idea of the team that wins it effectively giving their region another slot

I made this slot allocation of apac region according to their recent performances. And more than 7(6+1) direct slots to one continent for just views seems quite unfair to me.
