Maybe in a year or 3, valorant will start hosting a World Cup for players to play. Would USA just dominate or are there other countries with chances?
ChowChow [#5]No, e sports world cup is just a dream.
Why? Because e-sports games fast changing. At max games will only last 15-20 years. And if you do world cup? How many years per World Cup you wanna hold it? Let's say 4 years once. At max 4-5 World Cup the game will die first. Not worth,
I think more than that the problem of holding a World Cup tournament is that in order to do that you need each and every other country to accept e-Sports as a real sport to be able to make a team selection to represent them for their country, which is at this point still unlikely.
Meaning that the ones choosing the players to represent their countries, just like in basketball, athletism, etc... Are the countries itself. So for that to happen we would need to see countries accepting it as a sport.

No, they just make their own teams and go through a qualifier. Thats how they did it in rocket league. Those would be proplayer made no porfessionaly. I dont think they would do it tho. Would be fun tho with for example a rule no 2 players from the same team

Oh yeah well they could definitely do it no doubt. They did it with CS:GO iirc some years ago as well. I didn't mean to say that it's not possible to be done it's just that it wouldn't really account for an actual World Cup (regarding awarding winning countries the merit of victory) because there's no real involvement with the countries itself.
But it could definitely be done some way or the other.
Correct me if I'm wrong but I think some years ago League players asked for a World Cup kinda tourney but Riot didn't do it because of this exact reason, they did Regional teams tho iirc.

I don't know if cs:go ever made World Cup
But maybe you mean old cs?
In old cs the only big tournament is only WCG which is World Cyber Gaming,
ChowChow [#22]Define "successfully".
Only succesful thing about overwatch is the world cup, its dragged down by everything else

Tho I recall it being both Streamers and Pros from each country and not just regions. I very well just may be wrong.

Although it appears the players are not from said country, just representatives for such.
