That's true. The purpose can be fluid depending on use, but the design intent is key. A chair is designed for sitting, a table for placing items. That you can sit on a table or place items on a chair doesn't negate their initial design and intended purpose.

Well a chair "intended purpose" is purely subjective and to say a chair is "purely designed for sitting" is also purely subject as I can just bring a counter example of a guy designing a chair for the purpose of putting stuff on it or even doing other stuff with it other then sitting. What makes a "Definition" is one which is always true and have no contradiction that is counter examples.
