nah it's pretty much guaranteed to be like that
it's a 12 team tournament so it's not enough to do four groups and then playoffs like champions
conveniently, there's also four region that are going to compete in this tournament (AME,APAC,EMEA,CN) so the #1 seed of those regions can go directly to playoffs
unless riot wants to do something like 4 groups of 3 which is very unlikely it's pretty much gonna be the same as last year's format

the problem is of course does Attacking Soul Esports (#1 seed from china) are good enough to be directly qualified for tokyo playoffs?

So basically the matches will end up being (1st vs 3rd/6th) and (2nd vs 4th/5th). Winner of these will go to Tokyo.

The losers play out in loser bracket and whoever gets to losers finals will also go to Tokyo. (Americas and Pacific)

For EMEA, the team who gets to losers semifinals will also go.
