Due to scheduling restrictions imposed by Riot for the event, all the playoffs matches (besides the GF) have to be bo1 to make time

Idk why they didn't just do a GSL group stage instead of this weird round-robin to make more time for the playoffs

They could have just made playoffs single elimination bo3 and it would be much better.

What does Riot have to do with this? Is the host (Allied Esports) part of Riot or am I missing something here?

This is an Ignition Series event, which is a Riot series, so the event is sponsored by Riot. Riot also has some slight input on the event, and mandates the start and end dates.
