they spoke Italic languages before the romans
and then latin

It is generally believed that those 1st millennium Italic languages descend from Indo-European languages brought by migrants to the peninsula sometime in the 2nd millennium BC

in wales, scotland, england, france and ireland they still speak some modern versions of celtic languages
in Portugal they're completely extinct
