Incorrect:
They were a French dish, but they became popular because of a 1800s Belgian chef who brought the recipeback to Belgium. When the Americans came to Belgium, they called it French fries because Belgian's speak French and the American probably didn't realize they were in a different country.
Incorrect:
In 1790, a frenchman by the name of Passpourte travelled to a small village in the french Ardennes named Tralfamador. Upon arriving, they were greeted by the head of the village, Polonius and his daughter Ophelia. They were then introduced to the head cook, Kreon who created the villages special dish, which at the time was named “bébé sushi c'est de la merde” In 1805, the frenchman travelled across the the atlantic and arrived in the US town of Thebes where he presented the dish as a welcome gift to the Americans.
