CS has been out for a while with a huge amount of established players with a lot of experience which makes it difficult for players to get their foot in the door. A new game like valorant allowed the best of these players to get top level experience at a game and become the best.

Neither CS or Val orgs are currently making money so I guess if Val orgs start making money then you could consider it to be somewhat successful.
