Every stat will have its pros and cons. By trying to measure one thing you will be worse at measuring another. And there are so many important variables that are hard to measure at all. It is only natural. If you changed it the way you wanted you would experience the new stats shortcomings on the other end rather quickly.
The hunt for the perfect metric is futile.
Rating is great. You can use other stats like acs to check for agression rewarding stats to fill out the whole picture. Context always matters.
